Vem är du som person?
I’m basically a pretty positive person, even though I sometimes feel a sense of gloom when it comes to politics—but that’s also what gives me the energy and strength to keep up my political work.
Vilka erfarenheter har format ditt politiska engagemang?
My family and I came to Sweden as political refugees, so politics has been a part of my life since the day I was born. But that entire experience and all the injustices I witnessed growing up have shaped my political activism in various ways. From the racism that I and many of my non-white friends experienced, to the strong feminist upbringing I brought with me from home and the drive to fight for an equal society. International solidarity has also always been a part of me.
Varför valde du Vänsterpartiet?
I’ve always voted for the Left Party, but it was on May 1, 2016, that I joined the party and felt I needed to get involved in politics in some way. It was above all the inhumane immigration policy that came with Stefan Löfven and Europe starting to build walls that made me want to get even more involved. Since then, I’ve managed to do quite a bit of activism alongside my parliamentary work.
Vad vill du förändra i Västerås?
The most important thing for me is to strengthen the welfare system and phase out market-driven policies. I want to see continued efforts toward a more equitable Västerås where all children and young people feel optimistic about the future. To achieve this, we must continue to invest in welfare and ensure that all children and young people can have meaningful leisure activities. Parents’ financial circumstances should not limit whether their children can join a sports club or start a cultural activity. That is why we also need to continue strengthening community life and civil society.
Vad vill du säga till västeråsarna?
We are fortunate to live in a municipality with excellent conditions, thanks to policies that empower its residents. Through the Left Party’s policies, we are committed to making Västerås the best place to live and thrive, regardless of age or background. We have policies that are on your side and create the conditions for everyday life to be more equal and fair for everyone.
