It makes a difference when the Left Party is part of the government

For the past four years, the Left Party has been part of the ruling coalition in Västerås. We have succeeded in implementing many excellent policies, but we need even more left-wing policies.

Here are some of the initiatives planned for 2022–2026:

Public transportation

  • The 40-Ride Pass is back
  • Special discount for seniors and disability pensioners on the 40-trip pass
  • Summer Vacation Pass with Free Travel for Children and Teens
  • Lower price for monthly passes for children and teens
  • Free transportation for refugees
  • Free transportation for people in daily activities
  • New cross-town line between Hälla and Erikslund

Preventive measures

  • Over 1,000 new summer jobs for 13- to 16-year-olds
  • More summer jobs for high school students
  • A record number of free holiday activities
  • Children's and Youth Guides
  • Extra swimming lessons during the summer
  • Increased funding for associations
  • Strengthened cooperation with civil society
  • Free cultural school in the western neighborhoods

Welfare

  • No major cuts
  • Six-hour workday (pilot program at a municipal department)
  • Pay raise for teachers and preschool teachers
  • School social work teams at several schools
  • New resource school to open in the fall of 2026
  • Free breakfast (pilot program at several schools)
  • Three new nursing homes
  • Free work shoes for healthcare and social services staff
  • More gathering places for seniors

Housing

  • No sale of Mimer's apartments
  • More of Mimer's in-house operations
  • The Kvinna Mimer Labor Market Project
  • Expanded efforts to prevent evictions
  • Strengthening the "Housing First" model to reduce homelessness

The climate

  • Climate goal: for the municipal organization to be fossil-free by 2030
  • Climate goal: Västerås to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040
  • More solar panels on municipal buildings
  • More urban greenery
  • More sidewalks and bike paths
  • Over 500 million kronor in climate investments

A Västerås for Everyone

  • Citizen service centers in every neighborhood
  • Vasagatan as a summer pedestrian street
  • Purchase of Råby Centrum
  • Repurchased the Rocklunda area
  • Construction begins on new travel center
